RSPCA and firemens rescue cat from roofing in Thornaby

Cotton landed in problem after climbing up out of a skylight window at her home in Thornaby Road in the early hours of June 14.

The white cat roamed throughout neighbouring balcony roofs and, after her owner attempted unsuccessfully to tempt her back in by positioning treats near the window, the RSPCA was called.

The distressed feline was panting in the skyrocketing heat and cring in the shade of a chimney stack, while her owner said she was likewise needing to evade the undesirable attention of crows flying around the roofing space.

RSPCA inspector Christine Nisbet, who participated in the occurrence later on that early morning, got the assistance of Cleveland Fire Brigade to help the cat.

An aerial platform was released by fire officers so they might come up to to the chimney stack, however it was just when Cotton moved down to a lower-level roofing that a person of the firemens had the ability to clinch her from the top of a ladder, location her in a bag and bring her down to safety.

Inspector Nisbet said: “Cotton was too scared to come down, regardless of great deals of coaxing from her owners, and it was boiling hot which is why we were so worried for her.

“She was attempting to take some shade beside the chimney and was panting, and being a white cat she would have been vulnerable to having her ears burnt by the sun.

“At initially the firemens couldn’t reach her with their ladders, so they needed to demand professional equipment. They got rather near to her, however there was a space and she shot down the opposite of the roofing.

“Ladders were set up at the back of the property and luckily she was reduced. We can’t thank the fire officers enough for their help.

Cotton emerged untouched from her experience and was reunited with her grateful owner.
