Stratus didn’t have much area to herself. The gray cat had actually been sharing a little New York City home with 40 other cats, and the only location she might call her own was a narrow window ledge that was alarmingly high off the ground.

When rescuers from Animal Haven got word about Stratus’ circumstance, they hurried to help. Stratus’ owner was overwhelmed with the variety of cats in his home and had actually called the rescue for help.

Animal Haven staff took about 10-15 cats into their care at a time. When they got here for the 3rd round of saves, they found Stratus set down high above them, gazing below her frightening, lofty seat.

The rescuers discussed what to do and eventually chose it remained in Stratus’ benefit to let her come within on her own.

“When the owner told us she retreated to the window ledge often, we feared that we’d scare her and she may fall if we tried to intervene,” Shannon McLaughlin Kirkman, Animal Haven director of advancement and interactions, informed The Dodo. “Even though it was a tough decision, we determined it was best to wait until she came back inside.”

Eventually, Stratus left her window ledge, however it wasn’t always since she was hurrying to see the rescuers. It ends up, Stratus was pregnant and required a location to deliver. When rescuers lastly discovered her within, her infants had actually simply been born.

“We were shocked, but working in animal rescue, we’ve definitely seen more shocking things!” Kirkman said. “It did make us glad we chose to let her come inside instead of trying to get her from the ledge, which could have been even more dangerous if she was in the beginning stages of labor.”

Rescuers took Stratus and her kittens back to Animal Haven, where the entire family got needed treatment.

Stratus and her kittens will remain at Animal Haven till the infants are old sufficient to be rehomed, at which point, all of them will be trying to find their permanently households.

Kirkman takes pride in Stratus and happy that her family is lastly living the life they should have.

“Stratus is a wonderful mom,” Kirkman said. “She [and] her babies are all cozy and happy.”
