Authorities in Puerto Rico are examining the deaths of 35 cats at a horse racing center, cops said Tuesday.
A guard making the rounds at the Camarero Hippodrome in the northern town of Canovanas discovered the dead cats and called cops, authorities said in a declaration. A message left at the track complex was not instantly returned.
A necropsy was underway on among the cats to identify what killed the animals, cops said, including that toxin was presumed.

Puerto Rico authorized a law in 2008 to prosecute animal cruelty. The law was checked in the U.S. area a year after animal control employees took lots of dogs and cats from a public housing task in northern Puerto Rico and tossed them over a bridge.

Witnesses said at the time that a lot of the disposed of animals were dead however some were still alive when they were tossed.
