BRAND-NEW FAIRFIELD — A man is dealing with larceny and impersonation charges after authorities said he took over $300 worth of product from a regional supermarket.
George Craig, 37, of Torrington, was detained and charged with criminal impersonation and sixth-degree larceny Wednesday afternoon after an examination into a reported larceny at Stop & Shop on Route 39.
New Fairfield authorities said they reacted to the supermarket at about 4:25 p.m. and were informed that a white man in a hoodie left without spending for 6 cases of Red Bull, 2 cases of Monster energy beverage and a big bag of cat food prior to leaving in a gray Ford Fusion with North Carolina plates.
The car lay about 15 minutes later on taking a trip east on Interstate 84 near Exit 9 with 2 residents within, according to authorities. The traveler — later on determined as Craig — matched the description of the suspect from the supermarket occurrence, authorities said.
The taken product was inside the vehicle, and neither resident had the ability to supply an invoice for the products, New Fairfield authorities said. Also, Craig at first offered an incorrect name prior to he was determined by his Connecticut ID card, authorities said.
