Photographer Captures Comedic Stray Cats on the Streets of Tokyo

Many photographers hit the streets looking for an ideal picture. However not Japanese photographer Masayuki Oki.

Oki scours his hometown of Tokyo and different cities for cats expressing themselves in uncommon methods or posing in humorous positions.

He fills his social media pages together with his quirky and infrequently hilarious photographs that present cats combating quantity themselves, sitting in odd positions, and usually residing as much as their bizarre repute.

“It was New 12 months’s Eve, 2013 after I started my curiosity in cat road pictures,” Oki tells PetaPixel.

“Once I was exhausted in a close-by park throughout a break in between work, I met the fateful cat ‘Busanyan-senpai’ in the course of the highway within the park. From the time I met him, the course of my life modified tremendously.”

Oki was fascinated with Mr. Busanyan, who he describes as a gray-haired American shorthair cat with a weird look

“The extra I take a look at him, the extra issues come to thoughts in my head, and the extra I wish to shoot. A ardour was born in my coronary heart. Since then Oki has taken his Canon 1DX III onto the streets to the delight of his almost 300,000 followers on Instagram.

“I began taking photographs and uploaded them to social media day by day the place I obtained exaggerated compliments from folks everywhere in the world,” says Oki.

The Attract of Cats in Japan

Based on The Oriental Economist, there are an estimated 1.1 million cats residing within the Tokyo Metropolis, 60,000 of that are strays.

The general winner of the 2022 Comedy Pet Picture Awards was a photographer who captured two conjoined cats larking round on one of many Japanese islands which have giant feline populations.

In 2014, French photographer Alexandre Bonnefoy traveled to Japan looking for “city wildlife images.” As a substitute he wound up making a sequence of images displaying the stray cats discovered within the alleyways of assorted cities.
