PEORIA (25News Now) – Peoria County Animal Protection Services (PCAPS) takes round 2,500 stray cats per yr, and now the animal shelter has launched a survey asking the neighborhood a couple of program it’s contemplating referred to as “Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, and Return.”

The objective is to lower the stray cat inhabitants and the variety of cats being euthanized.

This program would give feral cats the kind of care and companies one would sometimes get on the vet.

PCAPS Director Rebecca Spencer says adopting and euthanizing are usually not one of the best options.

“We are not going to adopt our way out of the cat overpopulation problem. We have some great transfer partners, we’re working with other shelters in the community, and we work as hard as we can to return the cats to their owners,” mentioned Spencer.

Spencer says the animal shelter even waives adoption charges for cats to encourage extra potential homeowners.

Nearly 60% of the entire cat inhabitants struggles with adoption, leaving the sick ones extra prone to be euthanized.

“I think if our community understands what happens with stray and feral cats, then perhaps they would be more excited to take on the “Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, and Return” program in the neighborhood,” she mentioned.
