A girl in Portland has been charged with animal abuse when a veterinarian discovered that her cat was hypothermic and in shock — and lined in vivid pink fur.
Elizabeth Zurcher-Wood introduced her cat to Dove Lewis Animal Hospital on December 12 and instructed the vet that the pink cat was sick, based on KPTV.
The veterinarian observed that the cat was barely responsive and Zurcher-Wood stated that she tried to wash her with Windex, Spic and Span, and rubbing alcohol.
Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney Austin G. Buhl stated that the 39-year-old ‘didn’t appear to grasp that the chemical compounds had been poisonous,’ because the cat’s physique temperature had plummeted due to the rubbing alcohol.
Zurcher-Wood was arrested the following week and charged with two counts of animal abuse. She pleaded not responsible final Friday and stays in custody on the Multnomah County Detention Center, as reported by Oregon Live.
Zurcher-Wood made headlines in 2021 when she was arrested for attempting to kidnap a 6-year-old whereas wielding a machete and utilizing racial slurs, based on KQW. KPTV reviews that she was convicted for Attempt To Commit a Class B Felony, First-Degree Bias Crime, and Menacing.
Laura Klink with the Oregon Humane Society instructed KOIN 6 that the cat is now ‘enhancing and receiving nice care in a foster home.’
