  • An orange cat has actually ended up being a Malaysian zoo’s most significant tourist attraction after it was embraced by capybaras.
  • Oyen the cat is so popular that his existence in some cases doubles visitor numbers, the zoo says.
  • Zoo Negara believes Oyen was abandoned in 2020, and has actually formally consisted of the cat in the enclosure.

A roaming orange cat has actually been taking the program at Malaysia’s nationwide zoo since it began living amongst a herd of capybaras.

Thousands of parkgoers now flock to see Oyen the ginger cat at Zoo Negara every weekend, doubling visitor numbers on some days, the zoo’s vice president, Rosly Rahmat Ahmat Lana, informed regional paper Bernama.

“Every day, 95% of the visitors are here simply to see Oyen. He is incredibly popular,” Rosly informed the outlet on Tuesday.

Zookeepers aren’t sure when Oyen moved into the Kuala Lumpur park’s capybara enclosure, however they think he was abandoned at the zoo throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Rosly informed Free Malaysia Today.

The ginger tabby has actually consistently gone viral on social networks, through clips of him lazing the enclosure and cuddling with the capybaras, who appear undisturbed by their feline visitor.

Zoo Negara formally presented Oyen as part of the enclosure in June, when it included his name to the display.

Rosly informed Bernama that Zoo Negara is feeding Oyen and keeping an eye on the cat’s health, and prepares to discover him a partner in hopes of developing a capybara-inclined cat family.

“Unlike previously, Oyen is now docile and friendly. Should Oyen fall ill one day, it will be simple for us to hold and treat it,” he said.

Capybaras, the world’s biggest rodents, have more than the last 2 years been growing in appeal on the web for their calm character and saggy attitude, including in countless viral memes.

Zoo Negara did not instantly react to an ask for remark.
