Tool is a band that takes years and years to document new albums. Part of that’s their insistence on experimenting with sounds and preparations—and generally these experiments get just a little bizarre.
If we return to the Lateralus album, there’s a brief instrumental monitor known as Mantra. It options an ominous sound, a form of hum that sounds almost demonic. What the heck is that? It’s singer Maynard James Keenan, gently squeezing his pet cat. The cat was recorded and people sounds have been slowed right down to sound harmful.
Tool want to make it clear that no cats have been harmed within the creation of “Mantra.
