NASA has transmitted an ultra-high-definition video to Earth from practically 19 million miles away utilizing laser communications in what it stated was a “historic milestone”.
The video, that includes a cat named Taters, was despatched by way of a Deep Space Optical Communications transceiver aboard the Psyche spacecraft.
In the video, Taters, who belongs to an worker of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), chases a laser pointer. Overlaid graphics on the video show info equivalent to Taters’ coronary heart fee, NASA stated.
The aim of the experiment was to develop the flexibility to transmit “complex scientific information, high-definition imagery, and video” to help “humanity’s next giant leap” of sending people to Mars, based on NASA.
