MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – The Montgomery Humane Society is searching for animal lovers to assist them enhance their cat survivability price.
Specifically, they’re asking volunteers to assist foster at-risk kittens.
“So instead of putting these cats down, we started fixing them and giving them their ear tip and their rabies shot and then returning them to the finder so that they can release the cat back in the community,” stated Denton Hawk with Montgomery Humane Society.
That and different initiatives, just like the barn cat adoption program, allowed the humane society to extend its save price from 25% to 85% over six years. That means extra cats reside out their lives as a substitute of being euthanized.

“If we save an additional 100 of those this year over the next 12 months, we will be at our 90% save rate,” stated Hawk.
Hawk says a $10,000 grant helped pay for brand spanking new kitten kits designed to equip foster households with every part they should take care of kittens which were deserted by their moms.
But Hawk says it’s essential to make sure the kitten has been deserted earlier than reporting it or touching the kittens.
“Observe them for 10 hours to make sure that mom’s not going to come back because the chance of life that they have is if they stay with their mother,” stated Hawk.
