MILWAUKEE (WTMJ) – Twenty-one folks not have a home in Wisconsin, however residents are discovering a silver lining.
Over the weekend within the Kenosha space, a 16-unit condominium building went up in flames.
Amid the tragedy, a 12-year-old cat was rescued from a destroyed condominium and everybody was in a position to escape the fireplace.
“I looked and saw smoke coming out of the apartments,” stated neighbor Gabby Kelley.
She shared a video of what the smoke and flames regarded like from that day.
“Flames engulfed the whole building,” Kelley stated.
The Kenosha Fire Department stated the fireplace began after a cigarette wasn’t disposed of correctly. The building is taken into account a complete loss.
“Words can’t explain the devastation of it all. I mean just to imagine what they’re going through … I can’t,” stated Mike Hervat, the building foreman.
With flooring and ceilings utterly gone, everyone seems to be grateful that every one the residents made it.
“Everyone made it out safe, so that’s the most important thing, no injuries or anything like that,” Hervat stated.
And about 48 hours later, residents discovered one other nice shock.
Mia, a 12-year-old cat, was rescued by Hervat.
“The two floors fell through and everything, but the cat was still exactly where they thought it would be,” Hervat stated. “Going in there and seeing her exactly where she was … was a miracle.”
A miracle certainly, and Mia’s proprietor can now breathe a sigh of reduction.
“It’s a little peace of mind that everything wasn’t lost,” Hervat stated.
The Red Cross is aiding the 21 residents affected by the fireplace.
