BIG RAPIDS — The Mecosta County Animal Rescue Coalition revealed Monday that efficient right away it will no longer accept cats due to the proposed Michigan Gotion battery plant’s area.
“It will completely surround the shelter and make it unsafe for us to house our animals,” the release said. “They will begin groundbreaking shortly. We are saddened by this turn of events because we thought we had more time, but last week Gotion announced that it would start its bulldozing right on top of us. ARC was the first shelter in decades to take in cats, and by spaying and neutering our cats, we helped to reduce the stray cat population in our area.”
The animal union, situated 18400 220th Ave. in Big Rapids, is the county’s only animal shelter and was among the couple of in West Michigan that accepted roaming cats.
Since its beginning, the union has actually taken in over 3,200 dogs and over 1,400 cats and is a no-kill shelter.
