On Sunday, February 4, 2024, police responded to the intersection of Golden Beach Road and Coolidge Drive in Mechanicsville, for the report of an animal criticism which was later to be decided animal cruelty occurring on Coolidge Drive.

Police made contact with a witness exterior of his residence on Coolidge Drive who instructed police that Paul Lucas used a gun to shoot a cat. Police had been capable of establish man as Paul Jason Lucas, 45 of Mechanicsville.

The witness stated he noticed Lucas depart his home earlier within the afternoon in a Honda Accord and switch proper onto Coolidge Drive the place he parked the car on the roadway and exited the car. Lucas then walked again into his residence and got here out with a gun the witness described as “looked like a Glock” and walked in direction of Coolidge Drive. Police talked with a second witness who stated he was exterior on a porch when he noticed Lucas depart his residence in a gray Honda Accord, exit his car within the roadway then re-enter his residence. He stated he then noticed Lucas holding one thing “dark in color” in his left hand when he re-exited. He stated Lucas then “took aim at that cat”, and he heard one gun shot,” it was a gun, that’s what I believed.” He then noticed Lucas enter his residence from the roadway, walk out, then re-enter his car and depart.

Police discovered a black cat mendacity within the entrance yard of a residence on Coolidge Drive. The cat was described as roughly 15 lbs. and a darkish shade of black.
