On Tuesday, August 8, a regional non-profit is commemorating International Cat Day by starting a weeks-long fundraising effort. Cats’ Meow Feline Fosters is a group working out of Rowan County to restore cats and kittens so they can be embraced. The group is raising money to support their deal with a fundraising event called Cats’ Match Fever. Any contributions made to the group over the next 2 weeks will be matched by regional businesses.
Georgie Ramey is a volunteer and organizer with Cats’ Meow. Ramey said the money will help the organization capture up on medical expenses.
“We are still paying off bills that we owe for veterinary and medical bills. We have not caught up from last year, we had a lot of medical cases. And then after that, it’s you know, buying food and supplies,” said Ramey.
Cats’ Meow fosters cats to volunteers around Rowan County or arranges to send them to other non-profit saves that have capability. Ramey said the requirement for this kind of care in the location is exceptionally high.
“It’s an excessive amount of cats and kittens that are in need of rescue commitment and what that means is, they’re not necessarily adoptable. Mom is nursing babies and infants needing bottles, cats that are injured,” said Ramey.
The volunteer and organizer said it usually takes months to get cats healthy and prepared to be embraced. Ramey advised individuals the very best thing they can do to help the cat population in Rowan County is to make sterile and sterilize animals. The Cats’ Match Fever charity event begins Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Giovanni’s in Morehead, where a part of all sales will go to Cats’ Meow.
