Two adorable kittens are miraculously saved by a Good Samaritan after the pair were ‘thrown out like trash’ inside a shopping bag that was found dumped in the middle of a forest

Two young kittens who were heartlessly dumped in the middle of a forest have been miraculously saved by a kind-hearted motorist.

The four-week-old kittens were wrapped inside a reusable shopping bag and abandoned in a pine forest outside the rural town of Glencoe – near Mount Gambier – in the southeastern corner of South Australia.

A man not local to the area spotted the pair on the side of the road as he was driving past the corner of the Glencoe and Kongorong turn-off on Boxing Day.

South East Animal Welfare League operations manager Marica Perkovic slammed the owners of the discarded kittens as ‘cowards’.

‘There is no excuse for animal abuse and that’s what abandoning is,’ she told The Advertiser

Ms Perkovic said the kittens would’ve certainly died if they hadn’t been rescued, especially considering the area was recording temperatures of up to 40C.

She claimed the person or people who ‘deliberately’ dumped the kittens most likely already had a cat that was not desexed.

‘Whether it be a farm cat or a household cat it had a litter and then (the owners) decided “well we’ll chuck em”,’ she said.

She lambasted the owners again in a post on the South East Animal Welfare League Facebook page.

‘As 2022 reaches an end… we still have heartless people abandoning unwanted animals for members of the public to find. It’s not good enough… desex your animals and don’t be a coward when it comes to responsibility.’

Both kittens are now being cared for by the South East Animal Welfare League.

It comes just days after seven kittens were found alive after being dumped in a car park in the Adelaide suburb of Athelstone.

The seven little creatures were found in a zipped up suitcase on Christmas Day.

Three of the kittens were just three-weeks old and not yet weaned from their mother, while the other four were about 10-weeks old.

A man out walking came across the suitcase at about 8am on Sunday beside the Athelstone Recreation Reserve and was horrified by what he saw.

It was fortunate he found them in the morning as later that day the temperature in Adelaide soared to 32C.

The man took the kittens to his house, gave then water and contacted the South Australia branch of the RSPCA.

The 10-week-old kittens are now in good condition at the RSPCA and expected to make a full recovery from their terrifying ordeal.

The dumping of the kittens is being now investigated by the animal organisation.

Anyone with information on the case can contact the group on 1300 277 722.

If the person who abandoned the kittens is found, they could face two years in jail or a $20,000 fine under South Australia’s Animal Welfare Act.
