OMAHA, Neb. (WSVN) — A tiny kitten named Thorn acquired a life-saving transfusion of Siberian Husky blood over the weekend, because of a quick-thinking workforce at a Humane Society in Nebraska.
Thorn, the frail feline, was discovered coated in fleas, critically low on blood, and in dire situation on the Nebraska Humane Society. The scenario turned vital as there wasn’t sufficient time to find an identical blood sort from a fellow cat, prompting an unconventional answer – a blood donation from a Siberian Husky.
Dr. Katie James, NHS Associate Veterinarian, recalled the preliminary shock and eventual success of the process.
“I think I terrified a couple of other people when I said, ‘Let’s get a dog to transfuse into a cat.’ But, clearly, it worked!” she defined.
In a shocking twist, Thorn’s transformation post-transfusion left everybody in awe.
“We joked that he is as active as he is and as hungry as he is because he has some Siberian Husky blood in him now,” Dr. James shared.
The Siberian Husky hero behind this life-saving gesture, Brett Michaels, is now in search of a brand new home. Additionally, Thorn was named after the track “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” impressed by Brett’s title.
While Thorn’s highway to restoration features a transient stint with canine blood, it’s proof that the workers on the Nebraska Humane Society is devoted in making certain the welfare of the shelter’s animals.
The Nebraska Humane Society expects Thorn and his brothers to be prepared for adoption in roughly 4 weeks.
