JACKSON, Mich. (WILX) – The Jackson County Animal Shelter says somebody stole a kitten from its building yesterday. It was all caught on video, on the shelter’s safety cameras.
The kitten is a two-month-old, born in foster care by way of the shelter. Her identify is Trixie, they usually want your assist to search out her.
“Yesterday afternoon, it was discovered one of our kittens had gone missing. After reviewing our security cameras, it was noticed that there was a lady that let herself into the cat kennel, put [the kitten] in her purse, and walked out of the front door with it,” stated Shawn Lutz, a Jackson County Senior Animal Control Officer.
They’ve contacted the girl within the video, though it’s unclear if the kitten is lacking or in her care.
“It’s just really heartbreaking because we worry about like, is this cat going to be safe? I mean, the woman is already on our ‘do not adopt list.’ There’s a reason for that,” stated Lydia Sattler, the Animal Services Director.
Trixie had already been adopted and was solely on the shelter to get vaccinated and spayed. When workers got here in to seize the kitten for her appointment, they realized she was lacking.
“We want people to be able to visit them and interact with them. It’s great for all the animals to have that socialization. It would be a shame to have to shut our doors or lock the animals up because a couple of people made bad decisions,” stated Sattler.
Officer Lutz isn’t any stranger to monitoring individuals down and stated he’s pushed to carry her home.
“I have not met the kitten, but I will,” stated Lutz.
