Don’t name Mariska Hargitay a cat woman!

On Thursday’s episode of Today with Hoda & Jenna, the Law & Order: SVU star was candid about how her latest pet, a kitten named Karma, got here to be part of her household.

“I don’t perceive the obsession,” she instructed hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager, of people that love cats.

“I used to be not a cat person, I’ll be trustworthy. And I really like lions, I see myself as a lion, and I noticed this cat and I went loopy for it,” she continued, about her sudden bond with Karma.

The actress instructed Kotb, 59, and Hager, 42, that her children had been begging for the cat and she or he was shocked that her husband, Peter Hermann, agreed to permit one other animal within the household.

“He didn’t need one other animal, as a result of we’ve got a canine. And he noticed this cat. And I used to be sitting there pondering I used to be going to have [to convince my husband] — ‘cause my kids were like, [begging] ‘Mommy, mommy please.’ And it was all, ‘Daddy’s not going to go for this.’ And then Peter was like, ‘I really like that cat,'” Hargitay, 59, defined.

The kids — August Miklos Friedrich, 17, Amaya Josephine, 12, and Andrew Nicolas, 12 — finally did not need to do a lot convincing to make Karma part of their household.

Karma is, after all, named after Taylor Swift’s music on her 2022 album Midnights. Hargitay confirmed this to Kotb and Hager by quoting the lyrics, “Karma is a cat. Me and Karma vibe like that.”

Swift famously named her cat Olivia, whom she introduced home in 2014, after Hargitay’s SVU character, Olivia Benson.

“It was a no brainer,” she continued. “It simply felt so proper, and my daughter wasn’t having it some other means.”
