Julia said: “Just like in humans, some animals can tolerate the heat more than others. We recommend you making sure you have things to hand to keep your pet comfortable. Of course, make sure there’s plenty of cool, fresh water to hand, and some even like to snack on ice cubes!

“Pet-friendly ice cream is another nice occasional treat, but keeping cool, dark spaces for them to rest in, and avoiding over-exercising in the heat of the day is definitely advisable. Pets can easily burn their paws on pavements in just a few minutes.

“You may wish to book older or vulnerable pets in for a health check if you have concerns.”
