Carpenter added, “The stress of being at the shelter also makes cats particularly susceptible to illness and more often than not, the cats we intake have never been vaccinated.”
She advises new cat homeowners to observe for higher respiratory an infection as a result of change is anxious for all cats.
“If your cat or kitten has a runny nose, runny eyes, is sneezing, lethargic or suddenly uninterested in food, it should be seen by a vet,” she stated. “Also, anyone who has recently adopted a cat from our shelter is welcome to call us with any questions. We are happy to help.”
