ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – Two orphaned bobcat kittens are being taken care of by the Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center of Roanoke.
Center authorities state the roughly-one-week-old kittens had plenty of worms and in poor health, and although “our prognosis is guarded, we are seeing signs of improvement and are cautiously optimistic.”
Rehabilitating the cats provides tough obstacles, according to center authorities, who state:
– They presently require to be fed customized formula every 2 to 3 hours all the time, similar to a newborn.
– We will need to use a mask, or in some cases a leopard print pillowcase, in order to avoid these 2 from ending up being habituated to people throughout feedings. At such a young age they might quickly inscribe, and as soon as they associate people with food they might no longer be securely launched.
– Given their young age and being so late in the summertime we will need to overwinter these 2 and they likely won’t be launched up until at some point next May.
The wildlife center is requesting for contributions to aid with the cost of the cats’ care. Donations can be made by sending out a check or by going to swvawildlifecenter.org/make-a-donation/.
