In the past, we’ve informed you about a few of the interesting history of the Old Idaho Penitentiary in Boise, from haunted cells to increase gardens to significant detainees who lived behind the stone walls.
But we haven’t discussed among the best-liked and most highly regarded locals of the Old Pen, Dennis.
Dennis lived at the jail in between 1952 and 1968 and when he passed away, the jail population buried him in the only significant tomb inside the jail walls. And oh yeah, it may be worth pointing out that Dennis was a cat.
This Sunday marks the 3rd yearly Dennis the Cat Day at the Old Idaho Penitentiary and we wished to learn what all the difficulty over this feline had to do with. So we asked Alexandra Polidori, the occasion organizer at the Old Idaho Pen, to sign up with Idaho Matters.
