A Blackpool councillor has shared her personal experiences of sexual harassment to spotlight campaigns to make sure girls and women within the city are saved secure.

Coun Jo Farrell instructed a gathering of the total council she had lately been standing at a bus cease when the male passenger in a passing automobile shouted abuse at her.

Coun Farrell stated: “As a woman, I am sick and tired of this happening to me. I have been experiencing this kind of behaviour since I was a young teenager – that’s 40 years that I have had to put up with being cat called.
“I am calling my recent experience of sexual harassment out tonight at full council to highlight that women and young girls are experiencing this kind of behaviour every day and it needs to stop.”
In her report back to the council, she stated making certain individuals felt secure was a key precedence in levelling up Blackpool, with the give attention to campaigns together with #itstopshere, White Ribbon which raises consciousness of home abuse, and the Green Dot marketing campaign which urges individuals to intervene safely in the event that they see harassment.
The report says: “Respect for women and the freedom of everyone walking around our town should feel from the tyranny of harassment from others for any reason, concerns us all.
“People should feel safe travelling to and from work and education; using public transport and enjoying all the excellent entertainment, day and night, that the town has to offer.”
