MISSOULA — Sometimes, newborns can spend months in Missoula’s Community Medical Center neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) getting wholesome. However, a devoted staff of nurses makes certain the households do not miss out on milestones like particular events with their infants.

Maggie Thorness has labored as a NICU nurse for 10 years.

“It started a couple of years ago, one of our coworkers had this great idea that we could create a Christmas card for our families. Now, we try to celebrate every milestone.”

As this 12 months’s rivalry recreation approaches, infants at Community Medical Center are decked out in maroon and silver. They’re sporting cute cheerleader seems, snuggled in Grizzly Santa stockings, dressed as footballs, and a few are even smaller than footballs.

“I believe having households be excited and be capable of have fun with their infants is one thing that’s so particular,” Thorness shared. She finds that households cherish these moments whereas they spend time within the hospital.
