Byron Shire Council is releasing the Keeping Cats at Home drawing competitors tomorrow and it is open to all kids 12 years or younger living in the Byron Shire.
The competitors is moneyed by RSPCA NSW with assistance from Byron Shire Council and intends to accentuate the Keeping Cats Safe at Home campaign.
“All the kids need to do is draw a beautiful picture of themselves with their cat safe at home before the closing date of 30 June and they will go in the draw to win some great prizes,” Sarah Nagel, Manager Public and Environmental Services said.
Six reward loads that consist of a $200 cat enrichment pack, and a ‘Cam the Cat’ Squishmallow toy or a Mudpuppy Cat-tastic! parlor game, will be distributed in April, May, and June (there will be 2 winners revealed every month).
In addition, among the month-to-month winners will be chosen as the general winner. They will get a check out to Byron Bay Wildlife Sanctuary on their own, plus their entire class.
“The evidence shows us that cats do live longer and happier lives when they’re looked after inside our homes,” Ms Nagel said.
“Cats that stroll, specifically during the night time, do have a terrible effect on our regional wildlife triggering injuries or perhaps death, which’s another factor we’re motivating everybody to get on board and keep cats securely in the home.
“This competition is about raising our community’s awareness of these facts and the benefits of keeping cats happy and healthy in the home. We’ve got plenty of helpful tips and information about how cat owners can make it happen on Council’s website.”
