The website reveals that the “Midland Cat Wranglers” began a petition to “Bring our City of Animal Services Director Ty Coleman back.” The City of Midland verified recently that Coleman was “released” as “he did not meet probation.”
Coleman composed the following on his Facebook page:
“You’re informed it’s a safe space to speak and attempt to guide city management and encourage them of prospective concerns. But end up being the bad man since you spoke out about said prospective concerns and they get hurt when it doesn’t go the method THEY anticipated it to.
“Even when I encouraged them on a problem and didn’t concur with their reaction, I still followed my orders and did what was asked. Not as soon as was I ever insubordinate in any method and now I are sorry for not following my gut.
“I wasn’t given any reason as to why I was let go other than that I did not pass my probationary period.”
The petition states Coleman “accomplished many new programs (many a first) for the City of Midland Animal Shelter” which he “increased the live release rate to 88%.”
Other efforts, according to the petition, consisted of:
- Instituted an arranged volunteer program,
- Shut down puppy peddlers,
- Held a low-cost, drive-through vaccination center,
- Provided training to Midland Police Department on animal cruelty leading to examinations and charges being filed.,
- Started signing up microchips upon application which was something previous directors stopped working to do.,
- Was pursuing a trap/neuter/return program to help lower the variety of undesirable neighborhood cats, and make this an appropriate practice here in Midland.
