DEDHAM, Mass. — A cat named Mooshie was rescued after he and a second cat became trapped in a series of window wells inside the water drainage system at Ursaline Academy, police said.

Dedham Animal Control officials believe that Mooshie, who is not neutered, got into a predicament while chasing a female cat near the Academy at 85 Lowder St. in Dedham.

The school’s facilities staff called Dedham Animal Control, and rescuers were able to get the cats into one window well, while quickly sealing off the passageways as the cats maneuvered through the openings.

Mooshie was then captured by a teacher as students watched. The second cat scaled a 10-foot wall and ran away.

Dedham Animal Control warned pet owners about the dangers of allowing cats outdoors, where they face several dangers including traffic and wildlife.

“Unsupervised pets can easily find themselves in precarious positions that result in rescue, and even injury,” a statement by Dedham Animal Control said.

Animal advocates advise people to spay and/or neuter, microchip and vaccinate their animals against rabies.

Mooshie received a rabies vaccine, microchip, and he will be neutered next week.

“We appreciate his family caring for him and we are thrilled he is back home safely,” the statement said.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
