Firefighters rescued a cat from a home fire above a garage in the Corona del Mar location of Newport Beach, authorities said.
The fire was reported at 5:46 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of Heliotrope Avenue, near Bayside Drive, according to the Newport Beach Fire Department. A next-door neighbor called 911 after seeing smoke.
Arriving firemens discovered the upstairs system filled with smoke and flames in the entrance, authorities said. They rapidly put out the flames and a search of the residence revealed a hairless cat concealing under a bed in a back room.
