Often-troubled Cat Marnell is celebrating a new milestone in her sobriety journey.
The “How to Murder Your Life” author announced on Twitter Wednesday morning that she’s been “clean and sober” for 30 days as of Dec. 28 and tells us exclusively that she’s “obsessed” with her recovery.
“I’ve always known I would get sober,” she says. “New York City is the best place in the entire world to get clean. I’m obsessed with my program. … One day at a time!”
With the holiday season in full force, Marnell says she went to three meetings on Christmas to keep up with her sobriety.
Marnell, 40, told us in July 2020 exclusively that she had been off Adderall for two years but now tells us she ultimately relapsed despite being clean of the focus-inducing medication “drastically” changing her life for the better.
“I also did take Adderall to stay up to go to clubs in Mykonos over this past summer and was really alarmed,” she says. “I had sworn I’d never ever do it again, so that was a big wake-up call for me.
“I’m never safe,” she adds.
Marnell says she now surrounds herself with a close-knit group of sober friends instead of her “comfort zone” of “drug addicts at night” in the East Village and SoHo.
“In recovery, you still get to do that every night, but no one is on anything,” she explains. “I have tons of sober friends.”
The former xoJane scribe has always been candid about her battle with drug addiction, having once copped to snorting heroin and taking a Xanax before passing out in a bath — but now says she has a new lease on life.
“I’ve been given so much in this life,” she tells us. “I owe it to the universe to live up to my full potential!”
