Last year, after Isadora Monteiro’s daddy, Sebage, died unexpectedly, it was a tough time for his whole family.
Monteiro dropped whatever to see to his affairs, consisting of the rehoming of his cherished animals. Among them was Tina, her daddy’s treasured animal of ten years.
“Tina and the other pets became my family, an extension of my father and a way of keeping him close,” Monteiro informed The Dodo.
Since then, Monteiro and her daddy’s animals have actually contributed in assisting one another recover from his death, Monteiro said: “I did everything to make sure his animals didn’t suffer so much.”
But in the wordless interactions of their deepening bonds, Monteiro started to question if the memory of her daddy still remained in their hearts — particularly Tina’s.
“I don’t know exactly how Tina dealt with my father’s absence right after he died,” Monteiro said. “I wanted to know.”
So, she ventured to learn.
One day, with Tina by her side, Monteiro brought up a video of her daddy speaking on cam. And, sure enough, the cat was instantly transfixed.
Tina’s psychological response explained that, in all that time, he’d never ever genuinely left her mind.
“I was very touched to discover that she still remembers him after a year,” Monteiro said.

For Monteiro, it used a peek into Tina’s heart.
“I think I understand Tina better 1692415147,” Monteiro said. “I understand the impacts of my father’s death on her and a bit of the relationship they had.”
Though absolutely nothing can alter the reality of Monteiro’s daddy’s death, the minute of Tina’s bittersweet remembrance acts as a tip that he exists in the tradition of love he left — which they still have one another.
“It’s comforting,” Monteiro said. “I can’t love Tina more, because I loved her like my father from day one. And she seems to love me. She sleeps with me every night.”
