Caterpillar named Joseph Creed its COO.
The COO position is a newly created one for Cat. Creed, the corporate’s group president of vitality and transportation, will take up the COO position starting Nov. 1.
“Joe’s extensive financial experience across Caterpillar’s engine and machine businesses, combined with his leadership of our energy and transportation segment, position him well for his new role,” says Jim Umpleby, chairman and CEO of Cat. “Joe will help lead the continued execution of our strategy for profitable growth and pursue the market opportunities associated with the energy transition and growing global energy demand.”
Creed will report back to Umpleby, and several other firm leaders will report back to Creed. Creed’s stories embody group presidents Tony Fassino of development industries, Denise Johnson of useful resource industries and Bob De Lange of companies, distribution and digital.
Creed’s alternative as group president of vitality and transportation can be named at a later date, Cat says. The alternative will report back to Creed.
Creed joined Cat in 1997, and he has held a number of positions of duty throughout a number of firm divisions. He was promoted to CFO of Cat’s vitality and transportation business phase in 2013, then to vp of the corporate’s finance companies division in 2017.
Creed served as interim CFO for Caterpillar in 2018. He then grew to become vp of the oil and gasoline and marine division and the electrical energy division. In 2021, he was promoted to group president of vitality and transportation.
Creed graduated from Western Illinois University with a bachelor’s diploma in accounting.
