A manipulative bully declared he had ‘killed his girlfriend’s cat’ prior to releasing a ‘frenzied and determined’ attack on his now-ex.
Shane Corbett, 53, urinated on Danielle Whitfield’s carpets, smashed up her home and took her unique shoes so she couldn’t stroll in a campaign of abuse throughout their ten-year relationship.

Hugh McKee prosecuting said: ‘At one stage he took the keys of Miss Whitfield’s flat where she lived and would take her fitness instructors so he might manage where she went.
‘He would also throw cat food away for Salem so she would have to buy more food and use what little money she had left to buy more rather than use it for credit on her phone to call friends.
‘He would bring people back to her flat and she was so worried for her welfare, she would sleep on the couch with her bag beside her. Things got so bad she hadn’t oversleeped her own bed for 2 years.
‘The defendant would let himself in to the flat with her keys and once when she was not there, smashed a table and emptied rubbish all over her flat.
‘She is very house proud and was disgusted when she saw what he had done. She felt as though her home was not her own.’
Ms Whitfield ran away the dreadful circumstance to see her friend Scott Earlam – however when she went home to examine her cat, Salem, she encountered Corbett in the street who informed her he had actually killed her animal, the court was informed.
Not wishing to go back to her flat out of worry of what she may discover, she headed back to Mr Earlam’s home and was later on followed by Corbett who ‘began kicking the door’.

‘He then stamped on Danielle whilst she was curled up in a ball on a floor and told her: “You’re getting it”.
‘He also vowed to attack Mr Earlam again in the hope he would have a heart attack.’
Police apprehended Corbett at the property in Wigan prior to Salem was discovered dead at Ms Whitfield’s home in neighboring Atherton.
The reason for the cat’s death stays unidentified however the victim thinks that Corbett kicked the animal.

‘Shane did tell me he had killed my cat. Whilst out cycling I thought I saw Shane in the street and I nearly fell of my bike as I felt so sick to my stomach. I just want to get my life back.’
In mitigation, Corbett’s counsel Thomas Worsfold said: ‘He does offer a genuine and unprompted acceptance that he loses control but whilst what he did was cruel, inconsiderate and bullying this was not the highest level of controlling behaviour.’
Corbett was imprisoned on Wednesday after confessing coercive behaviour, triggering severe physical damage and typical attack.
