A safety guard who was jailed for stabbing 16 cats in a collection of assaults died of Covid-19, an inquest has heard.
Steven Bouquet, dubbed the “Brighton cat killer”, was jailed in July 2021 over the deaths of 9 cats and accidents inflicted on seven extra.
On Thursday, the inquest in Maidstone heard Bouquet died on his fifty fifth birthday in hospital.
He was receiving look after thyroid most cancers whereas serving his sentence in HMP Elmley in Kent.
At the inquest, coroner Patricia Harding dominated Bouquet died of pure causes at Medway Maritime Hospital.
The medical reason for dying was confirmed as Covid-19 pneumonitis with the secondary trigger as persistent obstructive pulmonary illness.
Despite receiving antibiotics, oxygen and drugs particularly to deal with coronavirus, his situation “progressively deteriorated”, the inquest heard.
The coroner stated it was “not clear” the place Bouquet contracted coronavirus, both in hospital or in jail. He examined constructive for the sickness a day after he was admitted for a cough and problem respiration.
Ms Harding stated: “Despite no matter measures, he was too weak to battle the an infection and sadly he died on January 5 2022, on his fifty fifth birthday.”
Bouquet carried out the assaults throughout Brighton between October 2018 and May 2019.
He was finally captured on CCTV arrange by the proprietor of a lifeless cat.
