Shadow had been out for less than a few hours when Amber, 24, noticed a put up on her native Bourne Facebook group saying a cat had been hit.

“The next day my emotions kicked in and were all over the place. Then when my other cat was hit that got me even more. I still don’t believe it – it doesn’t seem real.
“My mum is heartbroken because she loves all of her cats. She feels like she’s lost members of the family.”

“We did keep them in for a little while after it happened, but it’s so hard to keep them in the house,” she stated
