Blue Ridge Beef expands recall on kitten, puppy meals because of potential salmonella and listeria contamination

(CBS DETROIT) – Blue Ridge Beef is increasing its recall to extra lot numbers of kitten and puppy meals because of potential salmonella and listeria contamination. 

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says that salmonella and listeria monocytogenes can have an effect on the animals consuming the product, together with people dealing with the meals, particularly if they don’t wash their palms or surfaces completely after dealing with. 

The North Carolina Department of Agriculture notified the FDA of the recall on Dec. 15, 2023, however has since expanded the recall to extra lot numbers out of warning. 

The recall was initially issued after one lot of every recalled product examined optimistic for salmonella and listeria.

The following merchandise have been affected by this recall:

  • Kitten Grind, 2 lbs., UPC: 8 54298 00101 6, Lot #/Use by date: N24 1114 to N24 1224
  • Kitten Mix, 2 lbs., UPC: 8 54298 00243 6, Lot #/Use by date: N24 1114 to N24 1224
  • Puppy Mix, 2 lbs., UPC: 8 54298 00169 6, Lot#/Use by date: N24 1114 to N24 1224

According to the FDA, the recalled product was bought in retail shops in CT, FL, IA, IL, MA, MD, MI, NC, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI, TN, VA and WI.

Infected pets could also be torpid, have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Some pets can also expertise decreased urge for food, fever and belly ache. 

The FDA says that contaminated pets also can appear wholesome and infect different pets and folks.

People contaminated with salmonella might have the signs of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, belly cramping and fever.
