A Bitcoin Ordinals inscription from the Quantum Cat challenge has offered for greater than $250,000 at Sotheby’s, the famed public sale home announced on Monday.
The “Genesis Cat” Ordinals inscription by digital artist FAR obtained over 50 bids, in response to Sotheby’s, with the successful bid hitting 6.31 BTC, or about $254,000.
Earlier this month, Taproot Wizards introduced the Quantum Cats assortment of Bitcoin Ordinals inscriptions. The challenge of three,333 photographs cost over $66,000 to create on the Bitcoin blockchain. The sale for the broader assortment is ready to take place on January 29.
The Quantum Cats assortment, Taproot Wizards co-founder Udi Wertheimer beforehand informed Decrypt, is supposed to pay homage to early code within the Bitcoin community referred to as concatenate or OP_CAT.
“‘OP_CAT’ is an ancient ‘op code’ in Bitcoin that was introduced by Satoshi in the first release but later disabled,” Wertheimer stated.

While that is the primary Bitcoin Ordinals-centric sale from Sotheby’s, the storied public sale home has beforehand dealt with many NFT gross sales on Ethereum.
