BELLEVILLE, Wis. (WMTV) – The Belleville Police Department has a brand new, four-legged crew member.
Lieutenant Jax was a stray cat and was dropped at the division in August of 2023.
“He just kind of stole everybody’s hearts,” Police Records Clerk Nicole Coyne stated.
The Siamese cat will not be the everyday police K9, however employees members say he type of acts like one.
“I feel like he acts more like a dog than a cat,” Officer Katie Eucker stated. “I don’t know if he realizes that he actually is a cat.”
Eucker says he performs fetch and waits on the door for the officers to return again.
“I think sometimes if you’ve had a tough call for service, when you come back here, he’s here and animals just make your day better in a way,” Eucker stated.
Lt. Jax doesn’t exit with officers to patrol the streets. Instead, he’s on the station for them once they return.
“It’s knowing that he’s always going to be at the door and he’s always greeting you and he’s a cute little guy to have around,” Eucker added.
Not solely does Lt. Jax help division employees, he greets group members day-after-day.
“The biggest thing that I enjoy is having him to greet civilians that come to the window because usually they’re not here for something good. They’re usually upset so he instantly changes their mood,” Coyne stated.
The six officer division says as soon as he turns one in a number of months, they hope to get Lt. Jax registered to go to faculties and attend occasions sooner or later.
