FAIRFAX CITY, VA — A “cat lady” is a “woman who has a lot of cats, especially a woman who lives alone and is considered to be slightly strange,” according to the Cambridge Dictionary.
Although some people may take offense at that characterization, the dictionary also classifies the term as “humorous,” which is likely why most of the cat ladies out there seem to embrace the title. If it’s “slightly strange” to have a big heart and affection for cats of all shapes, sizes, ages, temperaments and fur colors, so be it.

Friday was National Cat Lady Day. To celebrate the occasion, Patch invited all the cat ladies in Fairfax City to share photos of the felines they adore for this photo gallery.
The brown tabby is “Tigre,” the white cat is “Yeti,” and the calico is “Nala.” Believe it or not, Yeti and Tigre are brother and sister. Nala was a later addition. All three are rescue cats. Tigre is skittish but also very loving, Yeti is a lovable oaf, and Nala is a little princess. We are grateful that they allow us to share their home with them. — Laurie Seaton, Fairfax City

My name is Beth Nolley and I’m a crazy cat lady! I live in Fairfax County just on the border of Fairfax City near GMU. I have three rescue cats, and the one in the attached picture is Leia. She was an orphaned neonatal kitten who was rescued by a good samaritan and fostered by an orange tabby mama cat with a litter of similarly-aged kittens. She is the sweetest, most loving cat I’ve ever known, and gets along with everybody… even the dogs! She’s my first black cat and my husband and I named her after Princess Leia. Her birthday is May 4, which is Star Wars Day, and she has a white patch on her chest that forms the letter V for Vader!
