In Black Bird, Apple television’s remarkable take on the real criminal activity narrative about a believed serial killer Larry Hall, star Taron Egerton confesses that his representation of FBI informant Jimmy Keene varies from the real-life individual who assisted authorities to discover Hall’s victims.
The mental thriller really zeroes in on Jimmy’s development as a previous high school football hero-turned-drug dealership who’s imprisoned to generate a confession from Hall. The six-parter from Dennis Lehane dropped on Apple last summer season.

“Dennis’ angle on the show was to take a guy from A to B — A being a lack of self awareness in terms of having a moral code, an attitude toward to women, to B, [a person] who has discovered some humanity and some responsibility to everyone around him,” explained Edgerton on Sunday throughout Deadline’s Contenders television occasion. “He does grow, but it costs him dearly. I think in terms of the real Jimmy, I think it was harrowing and incredibility difficult. I don’t know if it was quite as much as a metamorphosis for him. That is Dennis’ creation.”
Black Bird follows Egerton’s Jimmy, who is sentenced to ten years in a minimum-security jail. He is offered an option: get in a maximum-security jail for the criminally crazy and befriend thought serial killer Larry Hall (Paul Walter Hauser), or remain where he is and serve his complete sentence without any possibility of parole. Keene’s is just escape is to generate a confession and discover where the bodies of a number of girls are buried prior to Hall’s appeal goes through. But is this suspected killer informing the fact?

Lehane confessed that he didn’t wish to do the series after having actually adjusted a number of Stephen King books. He simply wished to make Bambi, “where the mom lives,” he said. “If I had a guy who didn’t know where he was on the spectrum … what if this guy thought he was here, he went on this journey to discover, and inconveniently, his own humanity, that was the story to me,” said Lehane. “I wanted to take Taron on that journey.”
