Regina is looking for an official chicken.
Residents can go online to town’s web site to appoint their choose for Regina’s official chicken till Oct. 22. After that, the Bird Friendly City Committee will select a prime 5 from the nominations, and town’s official chicken shall be chosen by a public vote in December.
In March of 2022, Regina was formally declared a “bird-friendly city” via a Nature Canada program.
“We are excited for this unique opportunity to select our city’s official bird,” Shannon Chernick of Nature Saskatchewan mentioned in a press release.
“This is another step in our journey of advancing Regina as a Bird Friendly City, and we are thrilled to include our fellow Reginians in the journey.”
The sharp-tailed grouse has been Saskatchewan’s official chicken since 1945.
The gray jay, also referred to as the Canada jay and whiskey jack, was chosen as Canada’s nationwide chicken by Canadian Geographic in 2016, however the determination isn’t acknowledged by Ottawa.
