A brand new land reserve is being established within the space of Ragged Beach to guard chook populations from the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve from the influence of future improvement.
Ragged Beach was the main focus of a chronic and heated dispute between conservationists and the native city council over land improvement. The provincial authorities vowed two years in the past that it could not intervene within the dispute.
Ragged Beach is positioned simply 2 km from the islands that make up the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve.
The province says Crown land within the space shall be restricted because of the world’s proximity to seabird nesting colonies. The division of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture says that call will assist to cut back mild air pollution and defend Atlantic puffin and storm petrel populations.
