PARIS, Nov 2 (Reuters) – Mexico reported its first outbreak of the extremely pathogenic H5N1 chicken flu on a farm this season, the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) mentioned in a report on Thursday, citing native authorities.
“As a results of the passive epidemiological surveillance carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the primary outbreak of extremely pathogenic avian influenza H5 of this season was reported in a poultry manufacturing unit within the municipality of Cajeme, Sonora,” it mentioned.
The report says the subtype of the virus is H5N1.
Mexican animal security authorities early final month had confirmed the primary case of H5N1 avian influenza in a wild chicken after declaring the nation’s poultry farms freed from the virus earlier within the day.
