Great Backyard Bird Count
The Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society is motivating regional citizens to sign up with the Great Backyard Bird Count Feb. 17-20.
Participants are asked to invest a minimum of 15 minutes to make their count, tracking the bird types they see and the number of. Birds can be counted anywhere: in yards, at school, at work, in community parks, downtown or at the library. Counts are shared online in a worldwide database to help researchers and scientists keep an eye on the health of bird populations.
No previous birding experience is required to get involved. The Audubon Society knows to motivate and support yard birders, consisting of a guide to typical regional birds, at and a blog site publishing yard bird sightings at scvas.org/backyard-birding.

District of Distinction
Last month, the Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority got the Special District Leadership Foundation’s District of Distinction Accreditation. The district is among just 40 statewide, and just 8 districts in the Bay Area have actually accomplished this acknowledgment.
“This accreditation is designed as a way for districts to highlight their prudent fiscal practices along with other areas important to effectively operate and govern a special district and is valid for three years,” checks out the structure’s website.
To be qualified for accreditation, a district needs to initially make the structure’s District Transparency Certificate of Excellence, which enables unique districts to display their openness efforts.
