Lewiston ecologist to talk to bird club in Auburn May 1

The Stanton Bird Club is set to host the last in its 2022-23 lecture series from 4-6 p.m. Monday, May 1, at Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring St.

Pollination and behavioral ecologist Carla Essenberg of Lewiston will speak.

Essenberg will provide a summary of the work she has actually been making with Bates College trainees and bird club volunteers to present native, pollinator-friendly plants to the Centennial Meadow at Thorncrag. This intends to help threatened butterflies, vanishing songbirds and other vital pollinators, according to a press release from Jeri Maurer, bird club board president.

For 7 years Essenberg, who has actually her doctorate, has been an assistant teacher of biology at Bates along with a board member of the Stanton Bird Club.

The public is welcome. The lecture series is complimentary of charge. Participants are motivated to use masks.

The club handles the Thorncrag Nature Sanctuary along with the Woodbury Nature Sanctuary in Monmouth and Litchfield.
