Kinabalu Unesco Global Geopark home to 355 bird types

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s Kinabalu National Geopark, which was just recently stated a Unesco Global Geopark, is home to 355 bird types from 63 households, according to a scientist.
Environmental scientist, Alim Biun, said of the overall 355 bird types, 267 reside in the lowlands and 52 in the highlands, while the rest are discovered in both locations.

The previous Sabah Parks research study officer said the Crimson-headed Patridge (pic) is among the special bird types discovered in the Sabah Park’s highland forest location of in between 1,000 and 3,000 metres above water level.
“Therefore, this bird types in Borneo is rather restricted, varying from Mount Kinabalu to Mount Menyapa (Sabah, East Sarawak, Kalimantan) and in remote mountains in southeast Sabah such as Taman Bukit Tawau and the Maliau Basin.
“The Crimson-headed Patridge is a monotypic types that is shy and tough to method.
“This bird is easy to identify due to its loud and distinctive call, but it is notoriously difficult to spot since it prefers to forage in dense vegetation,” he said.

On May 26, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said in a declaration that Sabah is now the 3rd area worldwide to have a Unesco Triple Crown website following the statement of the Kinabalu National Geopark as the Kinabalu Unesco Global Geopark.
With an overall location of 4,750 square kilometres, the Kinabalu Unesco Global Geopark incorporates the districts of Kota Belud, Kota Marudu, and a part of Ranau on the west coast of Sabah.

Alim, 66, who retired from Sabah Parks in 2019, performed research study in 1996 and 1997 to figure out the circulation of bird types ranges according to elevation, especially at Mount Kinabalu.
“So far, there are no bird species that are endemic to the Kinabalu Park area,” he said.
