Investigation after York Minster peregrine falcon discovered blind and struggling in metropolis backyard

An investigation has been launched after one of many York Minster peregrine falcons was discovered struggling in a metropolis backyard.

The feminine chicken of prey was found unable to fly on the property on Vicarage Gardens in Osbaldwick, about 2.5 miles from the cathedral.

RSPCA deputy chief inspector Claire Mitchell collected the chicken after being contacted by a member of the general public.

It was initially thought that the chicken of prey – who had been ringed on each legs – might have flown right into a window.

The falcon was taken to a close-by vet the place it was confirmed that, though the chicken had not damaged both wing, she was struggling and in extraordinarily poor well being. 

She was additionally blind in a single eye and had very restricted imaginative and prescient within the different. The vet concluded it was the kindest plan of action to place her to sleep to stop additional struggling.

“In order to help establish why she may have been in such poor condition, her body has been sent off for testing, which will hopefully enable us to get a clearer picture and rule out other possible causes, including poisoning.”
