Gwent wildlife group lastly free chicken caught up in a fishing lure for weeks

A BIRD on the lakes in Abertillery can lastly transfer its leg with ease, as a fishing lure had been caught in its leg for weeks, stated wildlife group.

Gwent-based animal sanctuary Socelex teamed up with Swan Rescue South Wales to rescue a coot (a medium sized water chicken) which had a fishing lure caught on its leg.

A spokesperson for Socelex stated they’d tried to catch the chicken to free him for weeks, with “many failed makes an attempt”.

They added: “Thankfully we have been capable of catch the coot utilizing kayaks on the water.

“The gentleman from Swan rescue was capable of take away the lure with little or no harm, so the coot was cleaned had sprayed and launched again along with his mate who’re at the moment within the technique of nest building.”

The group then highlighted the risks of fishing tools that isn’t correctly eliminated, notably at Cwmtillery lakes in Abertillery.

“Fishing line and lures have gotten an issue at this lake and lots of different areas,” stated Socelex.

Socelex wished to get one mission throughout, “to induce the general public to take home their tools to forestall issues like this occurring.”

The animal sanctuary said this particular bird was lucky.

Others will not be so fortunate and will result in ” being euthanized attributable to individuals’s lack of respect for the atmosphere.”
