Several dozen individuals turned out this weekend for the beginning of the Young Explorers Club’s sixth season.
The membership is sponsored by Morgan County Audubon Society and Jacksonville Public Library. It presents science- and nature-focused packages for teens. Meetings take place from 11 a.m. to midday a Saturday every month from December by means of March on the library, with a night session introduced in April.
Saturday’s program gave contributors the possibility to study chook identification fundamentals. They made chook feeders and had been proven methods to file birds coming to their feeders.
Upcoming packages will embrace:
“The Invisible Life of Ponds,” about microscopic life in ponds and lakes. Illinois College professor Bryan Arnold and his college students will current this system at 11 a.m. Jan. 27 in Room 141 of the faculty’s Parker Science Center.
“Fossils from Illinois’ Ancient Seas,” concerning the formation of fossils and methods to determine them. It can be at 11 a.m. Feb. 17 on the library.
“The Wonderful World of Pollinators,” about pollinators and methods to appeal to them to a yard. It can be at 11 a.m. March 9 on the University of Illinois Extension Office, 104 N. Westgate Ave.
“What You Can See within the Springtime Night Skies,” with Bernd Estabrook discussing planets, stars and galaxies. It can be at 7 p.m. April 1 at Western Illinois Youth Camp, 2244 4-H Club Lane.
