Mumbai: Two new chicken species – Variable Wheatear and Long-billed Pipit – have been added to the avifauna guidelines of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, thought-about among the many inexperienced lungs of the Mumbai metropolitan area (MMR).
This was doable via a citizen science initiative.
The November Bird Count added a further two new chicken species to the range of SGNP birds.
The Variable Wheatear was photographed by Ashwin Mohan and the crew led by Viral Mistry on the Phasacha Pani transect.
The Long-billed Pipit was photographed on the Jambhul Maal transect by Gopi Tanna and the crew led by Shubhankar Gokhale.
These new discoveries now be part of the esteemed firm of 225 different recorded avian species within the area. The depend takes place each month and nature fanatics are welcome to take part in these Bird Counts.
BNHS Director Kishor Rithe has requested BNHS members and chicken watchers to volunteer in such citizen science initiatives and assist in the reason for conservation.
The total chicken monitoring programme is supported by the employees of SGNP, led by SGNP Director and Chief Conservator of Forests G. Mallikarjuna, Sudhir Sonawale, AssistantConservator of Forests, SGNP with help Rithe.
